Scottish Stone Jewellery FAQs

What stones are used in Scottish stone jewellery?

At Tarska Jewellery I work with native Scottish stones including Skye Marble from Torrin on the Isle of Skye; Isla Rose, a rare pink limestone from Scotland's west coast islands; Vintage Bloodstone from Bloodstone Hill on the Isle of Rùm in the Inner Hebrides; and Red Jasper sourced from Scotland's east coast, including Fife and Montrose. Each stone is selected for its quality, natural character, and verified Scottish provenance.

What is Scottish marble jewellery?

Scottish marble jewellery is crafted from marble sourced in Scotland, most notably Skye Marble from Strath Suardal in Torrin on the Isle of Skye. Formed when ancient Cambrian-age limestone was recrystallised by the heat of intruding magma approximately 500 million years ago, Skye Marble is considered one of the only true marbles in Britain. Its cream and pale green veining make every piece unique. Isla Rose is another Scottish marble variant, a rare pink calcite limestone found only on Scotland's west coast islands, prized for its distinctive rosy colouring and natural green and black mineral speckle.

Are the stones sourced in Scotland?

Yes, all stones used in the jewellery are sourced directly from Scotland, via local collectors or from vintage collections. Skye Marble comes from Torrin on the Isle of Skye; Isla Rose from Scotland's west coast islands; Bloodstone from the Isle of Rùm; and Red Jasper from Fife, Montrose, and the Campsie Fells. Authentic Scottish provenance is central to what Tarska jewellery represents.

How is Scottish stone jewellery made?

Each stone is individually assessed, then cut using a diamond saw, shaped on a series of grinding wheels of increasing fineness, and brought to a final polish to reveal its full colour and character. This is the ancient art of lapidary, with every stage guided by the unique qualities of the individual stone. The finished stone is then set by hand in recycled gold or recycled silver.

What makes Scottish stone jewellery a meaningful gift

Every piece of Scottish stone jewellery carries a story. The combination of authentic Scottish stones, verifiable provenance, handmade lapidary craft, and recycled metals gives each piece a meaning and permanence that mass-produced jewellery cannot offer. A Scottish stone necklace, ring, or pair of earrings from Tarska is a gift rooted in place, shaped by real skill, and made to be kept.
